Clyde D. Gossman, 82, of Dieterich died Monday, January 9, 2017 following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 13 at Johnson Funeral Home, 1110 N. Fourth Street, Effingham, with Rev. Carroll Ross officiating. Burial will be in Arborcrest Memorial Park in Effingham. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service Friday at Johnson Funeral Home. Memorials may be made in loving memory of Clyde to the Winterrowd Christian Church, 23282 E. 200th Ave, Dieterich, IL 62424, Winterrowd Masonic Lodge #664, or donor’s choice.

Clyde was born on October 16, 1934, in Effingham County, IL, the son of Therman and Mildred (Schmidt) Gossman of Dieterich. He married Ada Gephart in 1956. Clyde was a member of Local 841 International Union of Operating Engineers and retired in 1996 from his long career as a heavy equipment operator. He was a 60-year member of the Winterrowd Masonic Lodge and a member of Winterrowd Christian Church. He enjoyed mechanic and carpentry work in his spare time.

Clyde is survived by his wife, Ada Gossman of Dieterich; daughters, Belinda (Jack) Bennett of Everton, MO and Diana Swanson of Dieterich; son, Mark Gossman of Youngstown, OH; grandsons, Benjamin “BJ” Swanson and Shaun Swanson both of Dieterich; brother, Larry (Wanda) Gossman of Wilmington; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Randall Gossman; and son-in-law, Steven Smith.
