Mary Runyon (87) of Bloomington

Mary Catherine Runyon, 87, of Bloomington Illinois passed away peacefully with her family by her side at 10:40 p.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at Martin Health Center, Bloomington IL.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, December 31 at the First United Methodist Church 211 N. School St., Normal. Rev. Kim Burke and Rev. Don Jones will be officiating. Visitation will be 9:30-11 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church, Normal. Arrangements are being handled by Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington. The family suggests memorials be made to the United Methodist Church Preachers Aid Society.

Mary was born June 29, 1929 in Rock Island, the daughter of Bub and Viola Adams Hendrick. She married the Rev. Arthur M. Runyon December 17, 1950 in Rock Island. He survives. Mary and Art had just celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. Mary graduated from Rock Island Senior High School, Rock Island and Moline Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing, Moline. Mary had been a Registered Nurse at Brokaw Hospital, Normal and at Paris Community Hospital, Paris, and at a doctor’s office in Kankakee. Mary had been a foster mother for 20 children. She enjoyed knitting scarves and caps for her entire family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be missed by all who knew her.
 
Survivors are her husband, five children, Debbie (husband Larry) Lappin, Effingham, Paul (wife Nancy) Runyon, Zionsville, Indiana, Cathy (husband Timur) Eads, Purcellville, Virginia, Thomas (wife Jean) Runyon, Lafayette, IN, Timothy (wife Brenda) Runyon, Riceville, TN, daughter in-law, Patty Runyon, Colorado Springs, CO, 24 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Ann (husband Richard) Stahr, St. Charles, Missouri and Judy Hendrick, Wilsonville.
                                                                         
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, a son David Runyon and her four brothers.
