Charles Robert Martin, 80, of Dieterich, Illinois, passed away at 11:00 PM - Wednesday, November 23, 2016, at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois.

Funeral services celebrating Charlie’s life will be held at 10:00 AM – Monday, November 28 at the Meyer Funeral Home in Dieterich, Illinois, with Mike Elliott and Nate Hagen officiating. Interment will be in the Dieterich Village Cemetery in Dieterich, Illinois. Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 PM – Sunday at the funeral home. In loving memory of Charlie, memorials may be made to the family.

Charles Robert better known as Charlie was born on February 27, 1936, in Dieterich, Illinois, the son of Arthur G. and Dancil I. (Sparling) Martin. He married Lynn Scaggs on January 23, 1965, at Gays Christian Church in Gays, Illinois. Charlie worked at Schultz Turf and Forage for over 50 years. He was a member of the Dieterich Christian Church and attended the Latona Church of Christ. Charlie was a volunteer fire fighter for the Dieterich Fire Department for 35 years and served on the Village of Dieterich board for 4 years. Charlie enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Fighting Illini fan and for many years, Charlie coached Little League Baseball.

Charlie is survived by: Wife of 51 years – Lynn Martin of Dieterich, Illinois...Children – Gordon (Laura) Martin of Effingham, Illinois, Amy Martin (Todd Hewing) of Greenup, Illinois, Charlie “Bill” (Amy) Martin of Dieterich, Illinois and Ross (Jayme) Martin of Dieterich, Illinois...Grandchildren – Allen Martin, Kyla Schreier, Alex Martin, Thomas Martin, James Martin, Chase Martin and Madelyn Martin...Great Granddaughter – Lillian Jo Gasper...Sisters – Verna (Tom) Tillman of Shelbyville, Illinois and Carolyn Settles of Mattoon, Illinois.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Kolten Lee Gasper and a sister Genevie Peebles.
