Dorothy Marie Doty, 100, of Cowden passed away at 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at Lutheran Care Center, Altamont with her family by her side.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, October 15 at the United Methodist Church of Herrick with the Reverend David Hutton officiating. Visitation will be 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday at Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Cowden. Interment will be in Myers Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church of Herrick and the Shriners Hospital for Children. Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Cowden is assisting the family.

She was born on April 30, 1916 in Sherman, IL, the daughter of Edward and Edith (Hunter) Puyear. She married Glen Doty on February 12, 1937 in Vandalia and he preceded her in death on May 22, 1976. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Herrick, was an avid reader, enjoyed knitting, sewing and gardening. She was a homemaker and former nanny in Indianapolis for Andy Jacobs, former Senator from Indiana. 

Dorothy is survived by her five children Connie Jean Travis of Chestnut, Alta May Fry of Cowden, Glenna Marie Knapp of Effingham, Carol Lee (Lyle) Barnes of Cowden, and Vickie Ann (David) Yakey of Cowden; thirteen grandchildren Rick (Kim) Travis, Lori (Pat) Prykopanski, Mark Travis, Pam Logue, Brad (Deannie) Fry, Dannette Logue, Dean (Kelly) Knapp, Beverly (Lee) Smith, Kevin (Sue) Barnes, Lisa Buchanan, Nicole (Eric) Tucker, Emily (Brett) Boehm, Courtney (Garett) Moffett; 33 great-grandchildren; 32 great-great grandchildren.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband Glen, sons-in-law Richard Travis, Edwin Fry and Duane Knapp, grandson Jerry Travis, great-grandsons Justin Travis and Dustin Knapp, two great-great grandsons Griffin and Brinnon Gaddis, brothers Don Puyear and Lawrence Puyear, sisters Carrie Smith, Ruth Boyington, Lena Caldwell, Ruby Puyear and Minnie Claysmith.
