Glenn E. Cole, 84, of Etna, IL, went home to be with the Lord surrounded by his loving family at 3:49 P.M. Tuesday, September 27, 2016, in the Mattoon Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center of Mattoon, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, September 30, in the Etna United Methodist Church of Etna, IL, with Pastor Todd Krost officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. Thursday at the Swengel-O'Dell Funeral Home of Neoga, IL with a 7:30 P.M. Masonic Service conducted by the Wabash Masonic Lodge # 179 of Etna, IL. Visitation will also be held for one hour at the Church on Friday before the services. Burial will be in the Zion Hill Cemetery in Paradise Twp., Coles County, IL with Military services conducted by the V.F.W. Post 4532 of Mattoon, IL. The Swengel-O'Dell Funeral Home of Neoga, IL is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be sent to Mrs. Ruth Cole of 977 Embassy St., Mattoon, IL, 61938, for the Etna United Methodist Church of Etna, IL, or donor's choice.

He was born October 26, 1931, in Bethany, IL, the son of Olaf and Florence (Turner) Cole. He was a retired Deputy Sheriff of Coles County, IL, a Farmer, a Carpenter and a substitute Mail Carrier. Glenn served in the United States Army during the Korean War, a member of the Etna United Methodist Church of Etna, IL, Past Master and life member of the Wabash Lodge # 179 of Etna, the Illinois Police Association, a Past Commander of the American Legion Post # 88, the Odd-Fellow Lodge # 260, Forty and Eight Club, all of Mattoon, IL, and the Danville Consistory of Danville, IL. Glenn enjoyed his family, friends and never knew a stranger. Glenn enjoyed many outdoor activities. He married Ruth A Drennan, November 8, 1953, in Etna, IL.
 
He leaves his wife, Ruth A. Cole of rural Mattoon, IL, after sixty-two years of marriage; seven children: Melinda Effner and husband Steve of rural Mattoon, IL, Betty Henderson and husband Kent of Toledo, IL, Cinda Pringle and husband Stephen of Oreana, IL, Maxey Cole and wife Susan of Mattoon, IL, Terry Cole and wife Linda of Charleston, IL, Dan Cole and wife Lisa of Toledo, IL, and Brian Cole and wife Tracy of Charleston, IL; several loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
