Floyd Neil White, 79, of Effingham, formerly of Herndon, Kentucky, died at 1:20pm Monday, October 15, 2012 at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion.
Floyd’s wishes were to be cremated. There will be no services or visitation held at this time. Interment will be in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Axson, Georgia, at a later date. Memorials may be made online in Floyd’s memory to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org. Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham, is assisting the family with arrangements. Floyd was born on May 23, 1933, in Altoona, Florida, the son of Lewis C. and Eileen (Shores) White. He married Peggy Ann Davis in May 1983. She preceded him in death in July 2012. Floyd was a veteran of the United States Air Force where he served as an airplane mechanic. He was the owner of White’s Electric in Windsor, Illinois, and later was an independent truck driver. Floyd owned his own Cessna airplane and flew until two years ago. He also built and raced Sprint Cars.
Floyd is survived by his son, Daryl (Jennifer) White of Gun Barrel City, Texas; daughters, Lori (Brett) Poorman of Sullivan, Illinois, and Amy (Randy) Kohnert of Watson, Illinois; brother, Mahlon White of Florida; 9 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Peggy; sister, Judy; and brothers, Lewis and Lowell.
