Darrell Gene Sowers, 60, of Jewett, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, MO, surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 30 at the Barkley Funeral Home in Greenup, IL. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Burial will be in Aten Cemetery in Hidalgo, IL. Memorials may be made to the Jasper County Cancer Support Fund, P.O. Box 333, Newton, IL 62448.

Darrell was born January 21, 1956 in Mattoon, Illinois to Randall and Glenna (Dappert) Sowers. He graduated from Newton Community High School in 1974. He was a dedicated employee of Lester Building Systems LLC for over 40 years. He was a passionate St. Louis Cardinal and Newton Eagle sports fan. Darrell was a devoted member at the Deacon of Faith Fellowship Church. He loved the Lord with all his heart and was a shining example of Christ’s love. He was a beloved father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend. There was no greater joy in his life than spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Darrell is survived by his loving daughters and son-in-laws: Amy (Michael) Terry of Montgomery, IL, Karla (Andy) Rector of Centralia, IL and Jill (Coty) Kistner of Newton, IL. His parents Randall and Glenna Sowers of Jewett, IL and Grandmother Ruby Dappert Rich of Newton, IL. His 7 grandchildren James and Henry (Hal) Terry; Braden, Drake and Jaxon Rector; Chase and Reed Kistner. His sisters and brother-in-laws Pamela (Edward) Dunbar, Diana (Joseph) Vandever, Cheryl (Louis) Miller, Brenda (Kevin) Earnest and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Darrell was preceded in death by his grandparents Glen and Francis Dappert and Dewey and Sylvia (Griffith) Sowers.
