Richard W. Bonnewell, 88, of Effingham, Illinois, formerly of Ann Arbor, Michigan, passed away Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Willowbrooke Memory Care in Effingham.
 
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at Centenary United Methodist Church in Effingham, with Dr. Joe Scheets officiating. Interment will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Effingham, with military rites. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday prior to the service at the church. Services are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Memorials may be made in loving memory of Richard to the Alzheimer’s Association.
 
Richard was born August 19, 1927, in Ann Arbor, MI, the son of Dewey and Sarah (Roderick) Bonnewell. He married Helen L. Seeger December 9, 1950 in Ann Arbor, MI, and she preceded him in death August 7, 2011. Richard was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was an active and dedicated Scoutmaster in the Boy Scouts of America. In his free time, Richard was an avid golfer and also enjoyed camping, fishing, and being outdoors. He was a member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ in Ann Arbor, MI.
 
Richard is survived by his daughter, Laurie L. (husband, Jim) Borrelli of Teutopolis; son, Steven F. Bonnewell of Scottsdale, AZ; grandchildren, Amanda M. (husband, Anan Sem) King of Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Christina (husband, Brian) Glenn of Miami, FL, Melissa Bonnewell of Gallatin, TN, and Andrew R. King of St. Charles, MO.
 
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; son-in-law, Dan King; son, David R. Bonnewell; and brother, Wilfred G. Bonnewell.
