Rev. Omer A. Jones, 94, of Salem, IL died June 30, 2016 at St. Louis University Hospital.

Funeral services will be 12 o'clock noonWednesday, July 6 at the Rankin Funeral Home in Salem. Burial will follow in the Union Cemetery in Altamont. Visiting hours will be from 10:00 A.M. until the service hour Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Village in Lawrenceville and will be received by the funeral home.

Born February 3, 1922 in Altamont, he was the son of Rollie and Mel (Tucker) Jones who preceded him in death. A retired United Methodist Minister with sixty plus years of service, he served in many United Methodist churches throughout Southern Illinois. Following graduation from high school, he attended McKendree College in Lebanon, and Northwestern University in Evanston. He enjoyed playing guitar. He married Edna Alene Burch, December 19, 1942 in Altamont and she preceded him in death, October 9, 2013.

Survivors include his children, Jim Jones and special friend Peggy Walker of Nashville, TN, Rick Jones and wife Cathy of Wrightwood, CA, Phil Jones and wife Lynn of Salem, Stan Jones and wife Vonda of Vienna, and Shelbie J. Sykes and husband Chuck of Farmers Branch, TX, along with 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He is also survived by a nephew, Gary Briscoe and wife Debbie of New Glarus, WI.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by siblings Herb Jones and Eva Briscoe.
