Verda Krabbe Schottman, 83, of Effingham, passed peacefully into the Kingdom of Heaven on Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at Willowbrook Memory Care of Effingham.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 18 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham with the Rev.Ted Gall officating. Burial will follow in Dieterich Cemetery, Dieterich, IL. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham, and also from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Saturday prior to services at the church. Services are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Memorials may be made to Illinois 4-H Foundation and The Cross Foundation in Effingham.

Verda was born September 23, 1932 in Dieterich, IL, the daughter of Louis and Clara Mundt. She married Wayne Krabbe on June 13, 1954 in Dieterich, IL, and he preceded her in death on February 24, 1989. She then married Ernest Schottman on August 4, 1990, and he preceded her in death on July 24, 2006. Verda graduated from Valparaiso University in 1952 and taught first and second grade in Dieterich Unit 30 until her retirement in 1989. She touched the lives of many who grew up in the Dieterich area. She was also active in her churches, St. John’s Lutheran, Dieterich and St. John’s Lutheran, Effingham. Her deepest desire was to obey and serve her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Verda is survived by sons, Stan (wife Marcia) Krabbe of Crystal Lake, IL; Roger (wife Dana) Krabbe of Litchfield, IL; daughter, Marcia (husband Bryan) Cox of Carmel, IN; brother, Delbert (wife Jeri) Mundt of Dieterich; sisters, Lorene Thoele of Teutopolis and Irma Horn of Dieterich; grandchildren, Beth (Jonathan) Krabbe Waight, John Krabbe, Ashley (Nathan) Cox Barker, Jodi Cox, Adam (Latifa) Cox, Danielle Krabbe and Ryan Krabbe; and great-granddaughter, Leighton Barker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and husbands, Wayne Krabbe and Ernest Schottman.
