Melvin August Graumenz, age 86, of St. Peter, Illinois passed away at 8:32 a.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 18 at the St. Peter Lutheran Church in St. Peter, Illinois with a one-hour viewing prior to service. Reverend William Emrick will be officiating. Burial will be at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery in St. Peter, Illinois. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Pagel Funeral Home in St. Peter, Illinois. Memorials may be made to Lutheran Care Center, the St. Peter Lutheran School tuition fund or donor’s choice.

Melvin was born on November 20, 1929 in St. Peter, Illinois, the son of Henry and Alma (Hollmann) Graumenz. He married Gladys Wendling on July 18, 1954 at St. Paul Blue Point church in Altamont, Illinois. He was a lifelong farmer in St. Peter. He held various offices at the St. Peter Lutheran Church and also served on the Lutheran Care Center’s Board of Directors. He enjoyed woodworking, puzzles and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys Graumenz of St. Peter, Illinois; a son, Keith Graumenz (wife Julie) of St. Peter, Illinois; two daughters, Connie Komnick of New Berlin, Illinois and Rita Yagow (husband Dan) of St. Peter, Illinois; eight grandchildren, Kristin Komnick of Cedarburg, Wisconsin, Jason Komnick ( wife Melissa) of New Berlin, Illinois, Shelly Bandelow (husband Ray) of Loami, Illinois, Kendra Whittle husband Stephen) of Maplewood, Missouri, Carmen Yagow of Springfield, Illinois, Shawna Graumenz of St. Peter, Illinois, Derrek Jones of Vandalia, Nathan Jones (wife Ashley) of Xenia, Illinois; ten great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Alma Graumenz; one brother, Alvin Graumenz and one sister-in-law, Edna Graumenz.
