Lawrence L. “Larry” Wendt, 62, of Effingham, Illinois passed away at 4:19 a.m. Monday, June 13, 2016 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 16 at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Green Creek, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the church. At the close of visitation, a combined Knights of Columbus and Holy Name Society rosary and a parish wake service will be held. Memorial donations may be made to Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance. Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham is assisting the family with arrangements.

Larry was born January 9, 1954 in Flora, the son of Bernard and Patricia (Flach) Wendt. He married Debra L. Deters November 27, 1982 and she survives. Larry was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Holy Name Society and the Teutopolis Knights of Columbus Council #2874. Larry worked at World Color Press for 30 years. After the plant closed, he worked for DHIA of Effingham County as a milk tester and in sales for Dale Allen Refrigeration. Larry, along with his brother, Brian, took over the family farm after their father retired. Farming was his true passion. He enjoyed collecting toy tractors and was a member of the National Trail Toy Club. Larry was instrumental in organizing the annual winter show, with proceeds going to local charities. He enjoyed his grandkids dearly, especially golf cart rides with them.

Larry is survived by his wife, Debra of Effingham; son, Jarod (wife Sarah) of Effingham; Kristen (husband Chad) Hartman of Effingham; mother, Pat Wendt of Effingham; four brothers, Brian (wife Chris) of Effingham, Jim of Effingham, Warren of Teutopolis and Fred of Effingham; two sisters, Brenda (husband Dick) Henry of Teutopolis and Pam (husband Howard) Will of Sigel; five grandchildren, Dylan, Austin and Carter Hartman and Owen and Evalyn Wendt.

Larry was preceded in death by his father, Bernie; sister, Lisa Addis and niece, Laura Henry.
