Loren Adrian Nelson, age 98, of Mason, Illinois passed away at 1:37 p.m. on Monday, May 30, 2016 at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 3 at Pagel Funeral Homes in Edgewood, Illinois. There will be a one-hour viewing prior to the service. Jeff Morrison will be officiating. Burial will be at Edgewood Cemetery in Edgewood, Illinois. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Pagel Funeral Homes in Edgewood, Illinois. Memorials may go to the Harvest Methodist Church or donor’s choice.

Loren was born on December 28, 1917 in Mason, Illinois, the son of William and Agnes (Warner) Nelson. He married Nadine Wagoner on April 30, 1946 in Effingham, Illinois. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to the opry and listening to music, going to church and spending time with his dog named Cricket along with his family and friends. He was a member of the Harvest Methodist Church in Edgewood, Illinois.

He is survived by his wife, Nadine Nelson of Mason, Illinois; three daughters, Janet Alwardt (husband Earl) of Mattoon, Illinois, Linda Rawlins (husband Victor) of Mason, Illinois and Cathy Ashbaugh (husband David) of Effingham, Illinois; two sisters, Faye Nemic of Darlington, Wisconsin and Mary Ella White (husband H.O.) of Mason, Illinois; son-in-law, Steve Buening of Mason, Illinois; seven grandchildren, David Alwardt (wife Crystal) of Mattoon, Illinois, Mike Alwardt (wife Megan) of Mattoon, Illinois, Kristin Alwardt (special friend Lace Shoots) of Lerna, Illinois, Christopher Rawlins of Mason, Illinois, Jason Rawlins of Indianapolis, Indiana, Stephanie Hollinshead (husband Jesse) of Mason, Illinois and Shawn Buening of Indianapolis, Indiana; ten great-grandchildren, Holly Alwardt, Colten Schnock, Mackenzie Alwardt, Macie Alwardt, Halen Wells, Alyssa Kramer, Kierra Kramer, Raye Hollinshead, Talon Hollinshead, and Samantha Buening.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Agnes Nelson; three brothers, Lloyd, Urban, Haven and Lavern Nelson; two sisters, Irene Case and Marie Goddard and one grandson, Brian Adrian Wright.
