Jim was born on April 25, 1945, in Effingham, IL, the son of Joe and Cecelia (Mihlbachler) Buening. He was a typical kid at that time, riding his bike, delivering papers, climbing and falling out of trees, going on to Effingham High School, getting his first job, and hanging out with his buddies. He worked at Blankenship Auto Parts for several years, and later he worked in the press room at World Color Press for 23½ years until his retirement. Jim was also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham.

Jim married Ruth Meyers on May 10, 1969. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Buening of Effingham; 4 children: Paul (Patricia) Buening of Arnold, MO, Christopher Buening of Amawalk, NY, Sara (Jay) Myers of Sigel, and Cathy (Scott) Hartman of Effingham; 6 grandkids: Brennan Buening (fiancée, Darcie Hammer) of Effingham, Andrea Buening (Keith Peters) of Effingham, Alex Myers of Sigel, Corinne, Corbin and Camdyn Hartman all of Effingham; and a great-grandson to be born in July, Connor James Peters. Also surviving are his sisters, Rita (Kenny) Tucker, Judy (David) Gardewine and Carol (Tom) Rohr, all of Effingham; many nieces and nephews; and grand-animals.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kenny Buening; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charlie and Totty Meyers; and sister-in-law, Jeannie Meyers.

Jim was a good man, loving husband, proud father and grandfather who loved auctions and Fourth of July fireworks. He would travel miles to attend both. This year the Austin Street Committee: Jim, Lonnie, Bob, and Clete, will meet once again and have a great time watching the fireworks together.
