Mary Hester Naber, age 91, of St. Peter, Illinois passed away at 11:45 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia, Illinois.

Funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 20 at St. Paul Lutheran Church rural Shobonier, Illinois. Pastor David Hoehler and Pastor Doug Meyer will be officiating. Burial will be at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Sunday at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Memorials may go to St. Paul Lutheran Church rural Shobonier, Illinois.

Mary was born on July 20, 1922 in Brownstown, Illinois, the daughter of William Jasper and Sarah Alice (Hillock) Smith. She married Walter E. Naber on December 23, 1958 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Vandalia, Illinois. He preceded her in death on January 21, 2001. She worked at the shoe factory for 15 years, Fayette County Jail as a cook for 4 years, and on the family farm for 45 years. She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in St. Peter, Illinois. She loved gardening and spending time with her friends and family.

She is survived by her brother, Clarence Smith (wife Lois) of Brownstown, Illinois; 5 nieces and 8 nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Sarah Smith; husband, Walter Naber; 2 brothers, Harold Koester and Dale Smith; 1 nephew and 1 niece.
