Elmo Childres, 91, of Gays, Illinois, passed away at 1:45 A.M. Tuesday, March 1, 2016, at his residence in Gays, Illinois.

Funeral Services will be held at 7:00 P.M. Thursday, March 3 in the Swengel - O'Dell Funeral Home of Neoga, IL with the Rev. Richard Coen of Neoga officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. A Graveside Military Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, March 4 in the Branchside Cemetery of Gays, Illinois. The Swengel-O'Dell Funeral Home of Neoga, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the family, in care of Randy Childres, 205 South Pine, Gays, IL  61928.

He was born March 1, 1924, in Charleston, Illinois, the son of Albert and Martha Childres. Elmo married Doris Herman in Mississippi and she passed away February 1, 2000. Elmo operated several gas stations from the age of fourteen, and then he joined the United States Army during World War Two. He returned home and owned and operated Elmo's C. B. Sales and he sold used cars. He also was a mechanic for the Miller and Son Auto dealership and numerous other auto dealerships in the area. Mr. Childres enjoyed visiting with family, friends and his customers. He would say, "It was okay for customers to watch, but don't get between him and his toolbox."

Elmo leaves one son, Randy Lee Childres and special friend Kim King both of Gays, IL; one son-in-law, Jack Gallaher of Mattoon, IL.

Mr. Childres was preceded death by his parents; wife, Doris Childres; one daughter, Lyona Gallaher; one brother, Ralph Childres.
