Betty Ann (nee Shelton) Parmenter, 91, of Effingham, IL, passed away at 10:43 p.m. Tuesday, February 16, 2016, in her Effingham home, surrounded by her loving family.

A memorial visitation honoring Betty’s life will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 25 at First Church of God, 2600 S. Banker Street, Effingham, IL. Arrangements are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham.

Betty was born September 12, 1924, in Odin, IL, to Clyde and Ethel (Minton) Shelton and she was one of nine children. She married James R. Parmenter on September 21,1947. She loved to travel and lived in California during various times in her life before settling in Effingham in 1966 with her family. An exceptional cook, seamstress, and teacher, Betty used her gifts to enrich the lives of those around her, especially for her church family. She was a woman of great faith, and her vibrancy, fun, and love for life touched and inspired those around her. Adored by her family, Betty stood as the strong and loving foundation for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Betty is survived by her 3 children, daughter, Brenda Austin and husband Nick; sons, Dennis Parmenter and Gary Parmenter and wife Rhonda; as well as 9 grandchildren, Angela Burton, Benjamin Parmenter, James “Nick” Field, Aaron Parmenter, Joshua Parmenter, Lauren Heller, Jared Parmenter, Erin Austin, and Jessica Glaspy; and 7 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim Parmenter; and son, Bruce.
