LuVerne “Biff” Engel, age 92, of Kinmundy, Illinois passed away 7:40 a.m. on Friday, February 5, 2016 at Evergreen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Effingham, Illinois.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 11 at the St. Peter Lutheran Church with one hour viewing prior to service. Reverend William Emrick will be officiating. Burial will be at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Pagel Funeral Home in St. Peter, Illinois. Memorials may go to the St. Peter Lutheran Church or the donor’s choice.

LuVerne was born on August 23, 1923 in Kinmundy, the son of August and Lydia (Bergmann) Engel. He married Loreine Scheer on January 28, 1945 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in St. Peter, Illinois. She preceded him in death on July 26, 2007. LuVerne graduated in 1942 from LaGrove Community High School. He was a farmer in the Farina-Kinmundy area, a member of the St. Peter Lutheran Church in St. Peter, Illinois and he also was a 4-H Leader for several years.

He is survived by two sons, Terry Engel of Carterville, Brady (Terri) Engel of Kinmundy; two daughters, Lynette (David) Shoup Springfield, Kimberly (Mark) Wexler of Bloomington; five brothers, Carol “Bud” (Marie)Engel of Doswell, VA, Louis (Laura) Engel and Wendell (Kathy) Engel both of Farina, Duane (Donna) Engel of Salem, Donald (Theresa) Engel of Kinmundy; four sisters, Delores Dorr Of New Castle, IN, Mary (James) Palmer of Charleston, Jean (Gilbert) Kroening of Carbondale  and Ilene (Donald) Post of Springfield; in laws, Ina Kay Engel of Kinmundy, Sue Engel of Kinmundy, Zetta Engel of Springfield, Alecia Engel of Salem and Carroll (Jean) Scheer of Carmel, IN;  8 grandchildren, Kelly (Traci) Engel, Jackota, Casey, Trey, Michaela, Christopher (Alissa)Shoup, Alex and Olivia Wexler; 7  great grandchildren, Cody, Carter, Kylie and Tamryn Engel, Atheena, Zayla Rose, Oslynn; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, August and Lydia Engel; wife, Loreine Engel; one son, Gaylan Engel; two sisters, Norma Young and Menerva Engel; four brothers, Melvin, Charles, Calvin, and Larry Engel; one sister in law, Delores VonBehren; two brothers in law, Fred Young and Gilbert VonBehren.
