Shirley Tate, 79 of Effingham, formerly of Wheeler, passed away at 5:00 PM on Monday, January 18, at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Friday, January 22 at Meyer Funeral Home in Dieterich with Mike Elliott officiating. Burial will be in the Dieterich Village Cemetery in Dieterich. Visitation will be from 11am to noon Friday. Memorials may be made to Meyer Funeral Home, 307 West Jourdan, Newton 62448 to help cover expenses.

Shirley was born on August 22, 1936, in Jasper County, Illinois, the daughter of Graydon and Irene (Dow) King. She married Jakey Tate on November 14, 1957, and he preceded her in death on May 4, 2009. Shirley was homemaker and mother. She was a member of the Wheeler Christian Church in Wheeler, Illinois. She enjoyed traveling, fishing, sewing and cooking.

Shirley is survived by: Children – Wesley Tate of Effingham, Illinois and Marsha (Steve) Kraus of Altamont, Illinois; Granddaughter – Stella Tate of Greenville, South Carolina; Brother – James (Barb) King of Teutopolis, Illinois; Sister – Mabel Nelson of Effingham, Illinois.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers George and Robert King.
