Velma J. Bushur, 85, of Effingham and formerly of Sigel died at 6:38 p.m. Sunday, September 23, 2012 at Lutheran Care Center in Altamont.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 27 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sigel with Pastor Gary Fortkamp officiating. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, September 26 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sigel and for one hour prior to the funeral service, Thursday morning. Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sigel or the donor's choice.

Velma Julia Bushur was born April 6, 1927 in West Township, Effingham County, the daughter of William and Julia (Bandelow) Storck. She was baptised April 18, 1927 by A.F. Neuendorf in St. Peter. Velma was confirmed May 19, 1940 by M.W. Pott at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Altamont. Her confirmation verse was Psalm 26: 6-8. She married Harry E. Bushur December 5, 1954 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church by Rev. E.G. Riedel. Harry preceded her in death October 5, 1992. Velma was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sigel and the St. Paul's Ladies Aid. She was a homemaker who cared about others and enjoyed sewing, bowling, visiting and watching her grandchildren grow up.

Velma is survived by daughters, Linda (husband Tom) Wright of Dieterich, Sandy (husband Eric) Bernhard of Effingham and Sheila (husband Mike) Hurst of Chandler, Ariz.; sister, Dorothy Czerwonka of Newton; five grandchildren, Rachael (husband Kyle) Pennington of Effingham, Stephanie (husband Ben) Sams of Effingham, Brandon Wright of Effingham, Alex Wright of Dieterich and Dakota Hurst of Chandler, Ariz.; great-grandchildren, Coen and Kade Pennington and Tenley Sams.

Velma was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Harry.
