Richard D. Cannon 62 years old of Altamont, left his earthly home Monday afternoon April 23, 2012 at 1:31 PM at home with his family near in Altamont, Illinois.
Funeral Services will be conducted Saturday morning April 28, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church, Altamont, Illinois with the Associate Pastor Richard Mulvaney officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be Friday, April 27, 2012 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Kull Funeral Chapel, Altamont, Illinois, and for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Military Burial Rites will follow the funeral services at Union Cemetery, Altamont, Illinois.
Richard Dale Cannon was born July 17, 1949 at home in Clay City, Illinois into the family of Bill and June Mitchell-Cannon. Richard was the third child of five siblings born into the family. Hard work and strong ideals were part of his family life. Richard received his grade and high school grade education in Flora, Illinois. He married Caroline Elizabeth Gaines on March 26, 1974 in Flora, Illinois. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, the VFW Post #7676 and the American Legion Post #512 all of Altamont. Mr. Cannon honored his nations call for service and was inducted in the United States Army on April 22, 1969 and served his country honorably with two enlistments receiving an Honorable Discharge on May 29, 1979. He received two overseas bars during the Vietnam Conflict service both in infantry and armor reconnaissance. Upon moving to Altamont in about 1992, Richard was gainfully employed by the A & H. Implement Company where he attended, greeted and cared for their customers daily, until his illness caused his early retirement in February of 2012.

Cannon of Altamont, Illinois...2-Daughters: Teresa (friend, Ben Hurst ) Cannon of Altamont, Illinois and 3-children: Tyler Hurst, Devin Durbin and Kaitlyn Hurst; Mary (friend, Anthony Graham Sr.) Cannon of Centralia, Illinois and 3-children: Tray and Kain Christianson and Matthew Graham...2-Brothers: Wesley (wife, Mabel) Cannon of Olney, Illinois and Steve (wife, Patricia) Cannon of Olney, Illinois...1-Brother-in-law: Peter Ainley of McDougal, Arkansas...1-Sister-in-law: Charlotte Cannon of Joliet, Illinois...and Several Nieces and Nephews.
He was preceded in death by His: Parents: William “Bill” Cannon and Alice June Mitchell-Cannon...1-Brother: Dennis Cannon...1-Sister: Linda Ainley...1-Grandson: Anthony Joe Graham Jr. at 3 years of age and 1-Granddaughter: Annaleida June Hurst at 3 months of age.
