Martin F. Koleno, Sr., 91, of rural Brownstown, died at 10:25 a.m., Thursday, August 23, 2012 at Friendship Manor, St. Elmo.

Service of Celebration will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, September 8, 2012 at First Church of God, 3001 Thrill Hill Road, Vandalia with the Rev. Tom Farris and Rev. James Budlove officiating. Visitation will be from noon to 1:15pm at the church.  Memorials may be made to the Fayette County Hospice, Vandalia or the charity of the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be expressed at www.giesekingfh.com. According to Marty’s wishes his body was donated to the Anatomical Gift Association of Illinois, Chicago, for research. Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont in charge of arrangements.

Martin was born on July 12, 1921 in Chicago, IL the son of John and Mary (Stopka) Koleno. He married Dorothy Frizzell in 1943 and she preceded him in death in 2000. He then married Edith (Richardson) Garrett on September 25, 2005. He served in the US Navy during WWII. He was affiliated with the Baptist Church and the First Church of God, Vandalia. Marty had been a
typesetter for years and then went to work for Culligan before starting his own water treatment business.

In his passing he leaves behind his wife, Edith Garrett-Koleno, his children; Martin F. (Jeannie) Koleno, Jr., twin sons; Thomas (Janet) Koleno and Timothy (Nancy) Koleno, Anthony Koleno, Christopher (Mary) Koleno all of Wisconsin, Daniel (Laura) Koleno of Illinois, Theresa (Dr. Fleet) Ryland of Florida, Patricia McGuire, Elizabeth (Michael) Jones, Mary Anne (Larry) Miller all of Illinois and Dorothy (David) Adenau North Carolina, his stepchildren; Leilani Moore of Newburgh, Indiana, Malia (Art) Stephens of St. Elmo, Illinois, Juanita Garrett of Barnhart, Missouri, Roy (Racie) Garrett of Vandalia, llinois, Sara Konrad of Vandalia, Illinois and Vicky Shouse of Brownstown, Illinois and his many many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by; parents, four brothers, three sisters, daughter, Carol Ann Koleno and stepdaughter, Mia Phillips.
