C. Leigh McHaney, 89, of Salem, Illinois died Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at the Lutheran Care Center in Altamont.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, August 26 at  First Baptist Church in Salem with Dr. Andy DeWitt officiating, assisted by Adam Herald. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time at the church Sunday. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery in Salem.

C. Leigh was born November 4, 1922 in Salem, the son of Robert and Leanna (Jett) McHaney. He married Dorothy J. Shroyer, August 25, 1946 in Patoka and she preceded him in death May 27, 2010. He began his career at Fabrick Trackter Co. in Salem and retired as Purchasing Agent for Acco Corp, formerly located in Salem. A member of First Baptist Church in Salem, he was always active in the music department, sang in the choir and had the distinction of being the oldest member of the church in the number of membership years. He enjoyed playing trumpet and also was proud of the fact he had his own dance band for several years, "McHaney and the Star Dusters." He and his late wife raised and professionaly showed Doberman Pinschers, winning the National Championship one year.

Survivors include daughter, Carol (husband Vernon) Koester of Effingham; son-in-law, Robert D. Mason of Miami, Fla.; sister, Emma Branch of Woodward, Okla.; five grandchildren, Craig and Erika Mason, Gabriel and Lei Mason, Jonathon and Tiffany Davito, Emily and Quentin Moore, Rachel and Kyle Birch; seven great-grandchildren, Kayla, Luca, Gianna and Gideon Davito, Logan and Dylan Mason and MIles Moore.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife and daughter, Julia Ann Mason.
