Marie C. Pike, 73, of Effingham, passed away at 1:17 a.m., Friday, August 17, 2012 at St. Anthony Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 20, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Sunday evening at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham. Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Schools or to the donor’s choice. www.bauerfh.com

Marie was born October 5, 1938 in Jasper County, the daughter of Walter and Veronica (Brummer) Pals. She married John H. Pike on October 12, 1957 and he survives. Marie was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham. After high school, Marie worked for the Effingham Daily News and later worked for 23 years as a secretary in the Detective Division for the Effingham Police Department.

Marie is survived by her husband, John of Effingham; two sons, Robert (Grace) and Kenneth (Debbie), both of Effingham; son-in-law, John Root of Effingham; two sisters, Wilma Buhnerkempe of Teutopolis and Alice (Ed) Ungrund of Effingham; seven grandchildren also survive.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Linda and brother-in-law, Laverne Buhnerkempe.
