David R. Meeks, Sr., 67 of Newton, passed away Friday, June 6 2014 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a. m. Thursday, June 12, 2014 at the Crain Funeral Home, Newton with Pastor Bob Susman officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 p. m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11 at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Ste. Marie City Cemetery, Ste. Marie, Illinois with military rites by Jasper Post No. 20 of the American Legion.

David was born on October 22, 1946 in Effingham, Illinois the son of Russell J. and Dortha Fern (Wilson) Meeks. On September 28, 1968, David married Betty Ann Baker. She preceded him in death on March 20, 2008. David served in the U. S. Marie Corps during the Vietnam War. He was a self-employed auto mechanic. He was a member of the Free Methodist Church, Newton and past member and bartender of the V. F. W. in Newton.

Survivors include his sons, David R. Meeks, Jr and girlfriend Lindsey Wright of Willow Hill and Troy L. Meeks and wife Hope of Newton; daughter DeAnna Greenwood and husband James of Switzcity, IN; sixteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; brother Stacy Meeks and wife Brenda of Dundas, IL.

His parents, wife, brother Terry Meeks and sister Judy Cornwell preceded him in death.
