James "Jim" Rentfrow (75) of Sullivan

James “Jim” Rentfrow, 75, of Sullivan died at 9:18 a.m. Thursday (July 26, 2012) at the Lakeland Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, Effingham.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the First United Methodist Church, Sullivan with Pastor Charliam Renner officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until service time at the church. Burial will be in the Windsor Cemetery with military rites. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Sullivan. Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home, Windsor is in charge of arrangements.
He was born December 6, 1936 on the family farm near Strasburg the son of Maurice and Dorothy (Chase) Rentfrow. He graduated from Windsor High School in 1954 and was a US Army veteran stationed in Ansbach, Germany. He married Margarete Marie Schlump in 1958 in Ansbach, Germany and she preceded him in death in 1978.
They had three children: Sue Ann (Ed) Minor of Effingham, Thomas (Lori) Rentfrow of Effingham and David (Susan) Rentfrow of Kirkwood, MO. He then married Carolyn Jane Bunyard Faulkner in 1979 in Windsor and she preceded him in death in 2010. He became a parent to Mike Faulkner of Windsor, Margaret (Jerry) Burrell of Neoga and David Mark (Diana) Faulkner of Kentucky. He was a grandfather to Brian, Craig, Derek and Jared Minor; Scott, Kelly and Sage Rentfrow; Kyle (Kelly), Grant, Ryan and Shelby Faulkner; Justin and Natalie Burrell and Jennifer (Ryan) Whitaker and great-grandfather of Haylee and Hayden Faulkner and Lillian Whitaker.
Jim worked for NASA during the 1960’s and 70’s in the Mojave Desert near Barstow, CA tracking the Apollo Space Missions. He had a lifelong interest in the space program. He moved back to Illinois in 1977 and took over the family farm near Strasburg and later moved to Sullivan and worked at Kal Kan Corp in Mattoon. He served on the school board in both Barstow, Ca and Windsor. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Sullivan and served on many committees there as well as being a delegate for several years to Annual Conference.
He is survived by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; sisters, Rosalie (Ron) Schantz of Belleville and Wanda (Craig Salley) of Archer, FL.
He was preceded in death by his wives, brother, Richard Rentfrow, and his parents.
