Rex Speer (68) of Lerna

Rex Speer, 68, of Lerna died at 10:55am Monday, July 23, 2012 at Mattoon Health Care Center.

He was the son of Marlo and Clara (Randolph) Speer of Toledo, IL. He was born on October 14th, 1943.  He was married to Glenna Young and later married Patricia Odle.  Rex and Glenna together had two children Daughter Barbara Annette Reinholz (husband Marc) of Normal, IL. and Son James Marlo Speer of Carbondale, IL.  Rex had two stepchildren, Stephanie and Beth Anne and three grandchildren and one great granddaughter.  Rex is survived by sisters Wanda Shepherd-Brown (Rex) of Toledo, IL and Beverly Kingery (Jerry) of Arthur, IL; also several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and Brother Gerald Max Speer and an infant brother.

Rex worked for General Telephone for thirteen years in Tuscola, IL. Later, he owned his own construction company in Flatrock, IL.  Rex enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great granddaughter.  He loved being outdoors fishing, hunting and camping with family and friends. He enjoyed dancing and listening to country and gospel music. He enjoyed cooking and sharing stories of childhood experiences and spending time with his dogs.

There will be a Memorial Service to celebrate Rex’s life at the Johnstown Hopewell Community Church on Saturday July 28, 2012 at 10:30. Visitation will be from 10:00 to service time. Graveside services will follow at the Janesville Cemetery. Barkley Funeral Chapel in Toledo is assisting the family with arrangements.  A loving memorial fund in lieu of flowers can be sent to Barkley Funeral Chapel Box 381, Greenup, IL 62428.

Daddy will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Those who his blessings touched will always recall him to say “No worries”. The family would like to thank Lincolnland Hospice and everyone at Mattoon Health Care who lovingly took care of him.
