Dorothy M. Latch (83) of Effingham

Dorothy M. Latch, 83, of Effingham died at 3:45am Sunday, July 22, 2012 in Eden Retirement Center in Glen Carbon.
Dorothy was born May 22, 1929 in Prairie Township, Shelby Co. near Stewardson the daughter of Fred and Caroline Friese Fluga. She married Joe Anson Latch on Dec. 19, 1948 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Stewardson and he passed away Dec. 12, 1988. Dorothy was a graduate of Stewardson High School and a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Stewardson. She was a talented and dedicated quilter. Many days you could find her working in her flower beds or doing yard work. She and her husband Joe also shared a love for John Deere tractors. Dorothy and Joe were husband and wife, and life partners. They owned and operated the Latch Grocery in Stewardson for 33 years. The grocery store was their life and their enjoyment. Their passion was serving the Stewardson community. They loved visiting with their friends and neighbors and were especially generous when they needed a helping hand. Dorothy was a true pillar of her community.
Surviving is her son J.J. Latch; grandchildren: Kerri Wells and husband Jeremy of O’Fallon, IL and Kristina Latch of Beecher City, IL; great grandchildren: Ashton and Aidan Wells; brother Charles Fluga and wife Marjorie of Stewardson, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is preceded in death by husband Joe, her parents, grandson Michael William Latch and sister Mathilda Ealy.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday July 28, 2012 in Trinity Lutheran Church in Stewardson. Pastor Richard Bremer will officiate. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 PM Friday in Brummerstedt Funeral Home in Stewardson and one hour before the service on Saturday in the Church. Burial will be in Stewardson Cemetery.
