Starting April 11, the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) recently announced they will be offer ing homeowner assistance through the Illinois Homeowner Assistance Fund (IL HAF) to help homeowners who have fallen behind on mortgage payments and rel ated housing expenses during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Households who meet the eligibility criteria will be able to apply for up to $30,000 in free assistance to pay past due mortgage payments, property taxes, prope rty insurance, and delinquent homeowner and/or condo association fees. Appl ications will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, May 31, 2022.
Homeowners in need of assistance can find more information on program eligi bility and how they can prepare to apply at www.illinoisho usinghelp.org.
Who is eligible?
The Illinois Homeowner Assistance F und (ILHAF) is a federally funded program dedicated to assisting homeowners who are at risk of default, foreclosure, or displacement as result of a fi nancial hardship caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Homeowners with household incomes less than 150% of the Area Medi
an Income
Homeowners who own and occupy their property as their prim
ary residence
Homeowners who are at least 30 days late on their mort
gage or property tax payments.
Homeowners who have experienced a fin
ancial hardship directly related to COVID-19 that began, continued, or wors
ened after January 21, 2020
The Effingham County Case Managers will
offer assistance completing those applications.
