Author Visit and Reading at Effingham Public Library
The Effingham Public Library will hold an author visit and reading w ith Dee Hartmann, PT, DPT, IF, Tuesday, Nov. 16 at 6 p.m. in the library’s Workman Room.
Released in July, The Ple asure Prescription was co-authored with sexuality educator Elizabeth W ood and is the culmination of more than fifty years of combined experiences helping women heal sexual pain in their respective practices.
“It’s a fact that 3 of 4 women of reproductive age expe rience pain with sex. We also know the effects of pain go far beyond the p hysical symptoms; it can affect women’s ability to connect and be intimate with their partner, which brings a whole other host of other issues” (T he Pleasure Prescription, 54).
Ms. Har tmann, who grew up in Effingham and graduated from Effingham High School, e arned a degree in physical therapy from Northwestern University Physical Th erapy and then her doctor of physical therapy degree from St. Ambrose Unive rsity. As part of her participation in the American Physical Therapy Associ ation's Section on Women's Health, Dee served as the originating chairperso n of the task force responsible for creating the Certificate of Achievement in Pelvic Physical Therapy.
A pioneer in h er field, Dee is or has been a member, fellow, president, and board directo r for a vast array of organizations dedicated to women's sexual health and pelvic pain, including the International Pelvic Pain Society, the Internati onal Society for the Study of Vulvovaginal Disease, and the International S ociety for the Study of Women's Sexual Health. Her research and findings ar e widely published in journals and books
Sh e has been a guest lecturer and instructor at numerous schools, universitie s, workshops, and conferences around the world and as a sole practitioner, Dee used a functional perspective to help patients decrease pelvic pain and restore health. At the Center for Genital Health and Education, she contin ues to research sexual pain. With an added focus on pleasure, Dee brings mu ch-needed, progressive insight into educating people through VulvaLove, Inc ., a company she founded together with Elizabeth Wood.
