The Effingham County Bar Association, in conjunction with the Effingham County Cultural Center and Museum Association, will present a free program on an Overview of the Legal System and Criminal Justice at the historic Effingham County Museum this Wednesday, November 6, 2013 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.  This program will be the first in a series of six free programs, open to the public, entitled "The People's Law School", sponsored by the Effingham County Bar Association.
The program will cover multiple aspects of the legal system, including such questions as:  Who decides what criminal charges to file?; What are my rights if I am charged with a crime?;  Why are "plea bargains" entered in so many criminal cases?; What areas of the law have changed most in the last twenty years?  This first in the series of People's Law School programs will feature a moderator format and offer perspectives of the prosecutor and defense attorney.  A question and answer period will close the presentation.
Prior to the People's Law School Program, beginning at 6:00 p.m., tours of the Effingham County Museum will be offered to attendees.  These tours can be joined in progress.  Due to seating limitations in the courtroom, attendance is limited to the first 60 people, so arrive early to ensure your seat.  This program will be presented by Scott Ealy of the Effingham County State's Attorney's Office, local attorney Lance Freezeland, and Ed Deters of McDevitt Osteen Chojnicki & Deters, LLC.
Upcoming topics include Family Law on November 13th and Personal Injury, Worker's Compensation and VA and Social Security Disability on November 20th.  Additional forums are scheduled for February of 2014.
