The Area 5 Conference of the Illinois Retired Teachers will be held at Effingham Junior High School Wednesday, June 12. Retired teachers from counties in East Central Illinois are urged and welcomed to attend this informative meeting affecting all teacher retirees. The conference will begin with registration and refreshments at 8 a.m. Speakers will be Jim Backman, IRTA Executive Director and Gary Elmen IRTA President. Topics of session will be pensions, voter voice, insurance/medicare, membership and member benefits. Cynthia O'Neill, TRS Trustee and retired teacher will speak about the conditon of TRS and how TRS manages the multi-billion dollar investment fund. Legislators have been invited to attend. The conference will conclude with lunch and drawing of door prizes provided by area merchants.
