Children can experience the joy and satisfaction of tending a garden during a series of free lessons on Saturdays at the Lincoln Log Cabin State Historic Site. On Saturday, June 1, they'll plant the garden and make garden markers. In later weeks, they get the icky fun of making a compost station with live worms, learn the importance of plant nutrients, make rock garden creatures and learn about native Illinois garden bugs. The free sessions continue all summer at 10 a.m. Saturdays. Each one lasts until about noon and families are welcome to come at any time during the open program.
