A monthly look at the technology of the past begins Monday, April 1 at the Bryant Cottage State Historic Site in Bement with a display of 14 different lamp types ranging from a mid-1700s Cruise lamp to a 1940s Coleman lantern. Throughout the year, visitors can see the different ways people of the 19th century and early 20th century used kerosene to enhance everyday life. Each month a new display will examine a different piece of technology from the past.

Bryant Cottage is open Thursday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The 1856 home may have been the spot where Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas planned the famous Lincoln-Douglas debates.
