Did you know it's the midst of the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War? From 1861 to 1865, the conflict between north and south caused more American deaths than did all of the 20th century wars combined. Commemorate this extraordinary event in American History with Lake Land College.

Throughout the month of March, Lake Land College will host an exhibit from the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum entitled, “To Kill and To Heal: Weapons and Medicine of the Civil War.” This exhibit will be on display at the Learning Resource Center.

“Patriotism, Sentimentality, Yearning, and Loss: The Songs of the Civil War” will be presented by Nancy Caldwell, Lake Land College music instructor. This event will take place Thursday, March 21 at 2:30 p.m. in Neal Hall, room 109.

During this session, participants will hear examples of Civil War songs and discuss their specific appeal to Americans during the war and beyond.

On Wednesday, March 27 join Lake Land instructors Matt Greider and Mike Rudibaugh for a presentation regarding data on district residents during the war. The time and location of this event will be determined as the date nears.

These events are free and open to the public.
