Author Visit and Reading at Effingham Public Library

The Effingham Public Library will hold an author visit and reading with Dee Hartmann, PT, DPT, IF, Tuesday, Nov. 16 at 6 p.m. in the library’s Workman Room.

Released in July, The Pleasure Prescription was co-authored with sexuality educator Elizabeth Wood and is the culmination of more than fifty years of combined experiences helping women heal sexual pain in their respective practices.

“It’s a fact that 3 of 4 women of reproductive age experience pain with sex.  We also know the effects of pain go far beyond the physical symptoms; it can affect women’s ability to connect and be intimate with their partner, which brings a whole other host of other issues” (The Pleasure Prescription, 54).

Ms. Hartmann, who grew up in Effingham and graduated from Effingham High School, earned a degree in physical therapy from Northwestern University Physical Therapy and then her doctor of physical therapy degree from St. Ambrose University. As part of her participation in the American Physical Therapy Association's Section on Women's Health, Dee served as the originating chairperson of the task force responsible for creating the Certificate of Achievement in Pelvic Physical Therapy.

A pioneer in her field, Dee is or has been a member, fellow, president, and board director for a vast array of organizations dedicated to women's sexual health and pelvic pain, including the International Pelvic Pain Society, the International Society for the Study of Vulvovaginal Disease, and the International Society for the Study of Women's Sexual Health. Her research and findings are widely published in journals and books

She has been a guest lecturer and instructor at numerous schools, universities, workshops, and conferences around the world and as a sole practitioner, Dee used a functional perspective to help patients decrease pelvic pain and restore health. At the Center for Genital Health and Education, she continues to research sexual pain. With an added focus on pleasure, Dee brings much-needed, progressive insight into educating people through VulvaLove, Inc., a company she founded together with Elizabeth Wood.

Books will be available for purchase.  $21.95 each.

Registration is not necessary.
