Registration for the free Summer Reading Challenge at Effingham Public Library, begins Wednesday, May 1. The Summer Reading Challenge was created to keep children and students reading over the long summer vacation and to avoid Summer Reading Slide.

The summer reading challenge at Effingham Public Library is open to all area children and students from birth through 18 and is themed “It’s Showtime at Your Library!” A library card is not needed to participate in this free program or any of the events at the library.

The Reading Challenge allows participants to earn rewards for reading. Rewards are received for completing Levels 1, 2, 3 and 4. All participants who complete 4 reading levels (28 days of reading) will receive a book of their own to keep and an invite to a Pool Party. Those who read for 42 days will be honored at a Super Summer Reader Medal Ceremony.

This year’s rewards are sponsored by Burrus Seed, Homewood Grill, Chipotle and Chili’s. Registration and the logging of reading will take place online, thanks to the Beanstack software that the Library introduced last year which features: one family, one account, one login for logging and tracking all family reading. This means anyone can take part in the program from home or on vacation using a mobile device or computer.

More information is available on the library’s website. Participants may register online at any time throughout the reading program and can backdate their reading. Those who took part in Summer Read 2018 or this year’s Winter Reading Challenge will already have an online reading program account. The Library is happy to help anyone reactivate their account. Library staff can also check to see if you have an account or assist you in setting one up. Just stop by or call the Reference Desk at the library 217-342-2464 ext. 1.

A kickoff event featuring a Super Hero Training Camp will be held at the Library on Friday, May 31 from 5 to 7 p.m.

If you have questions, please call the library at 342-2464 x1 or email info@effinghamlibrary.org
