Effingham Public Library is joining thousands of other libraries and schools across the country who are celebrating this year’s Teen Tech Week theme, “Libraries are for creating!”. Effingham Public Library is participating in Teen Tech Week to raise awareness about how the library creates a space beyond the classroom where teens can extend their learning.

Stop in the Teen Department of the library any time the week of March 5th through the 10th to create your very own earbud pouch (while supplies last). The week will end with an after-hours event with Pizza and a Movie. The movie Thor: Ragnarok (PG-13, 130minutes) will be shown in the Workman Room of the library on Friday, March 9 at 6 p.m. The library closes at 6 p.m. that day, so those wishing to attend need to arrive before then. No registration required.

Also, for Jr. High students, Smartphone Photography Classes will be held on Thursday, March 8th and Thursday, March 15th.

Jr. High Smartphone Photography Class 1 will take place on Thursday, March 8 at 4 p.m. Photography is an art – even smartphone photography. Bring a smartphone and join us to learn how to take your smartphone photography to the next level. The one-hour session will focus on photography fundamentals, including composition, lighting, and posing. Registration is required for this class.

Jr. High Smartphone Photography Class 2 will take place on Thursday, March 15 at 4 p.m. Join us to learn about popular apps that allow you to edit, share, and store the photos on your phone. Participants will bring a few of their favorite smartphone photos along to be judged, with winners posted on our Facebook page. Registration is required for this class.

If you have any questions regarding the program or what resources are offered, the library can be contacted at 217-342-2464 x1, email, info@effinghamlibrary.org, or go online atwww.effinghamlibrary.org

And don’t forget to ask about and take advantage of all the digital resources and services that are available to help teens succeed in school and to prepare for college and 21st century careers.
