1872 Celebration of the Courthouse and Grand Ball

The Effingham County Museum is pleased to announce that on
 October 1, 2016, in celebration of the renovation work performed on the historic courthouse's second floor, there will be a day with events which will both educate and entertain.  At 10:30 a.m., local historian, Phil Lewis will present a program in the first floor meeting room entitled, "Looking for Lincoln."  At 3:00 p.m., CHRIS VALLILLO, a singer and Songwriter, a roots musician, who makes the people and places of unmetropolitan” America come to life in song, will present a concert on the second floor.  TICKETS ARE $15 . 



At 7:00 p.m., Grand Ball ticket holders will meet President and Mrs. Grant. In 1872, when the historic Effingham County Courthouse was fully occupied for the first time, Ulysses S. Grant was President of the United States. Re-enactorsScott and Peggy Whitney have performed as General and/or President & Mrs. Julia Grant since 2000, at many events each year.  They have made approximately 350 appearances in the last 16 years in Milwaukee, Chicago, Galena, Springfield, St. Louis, Ohio, Maine, New York and many places in between. TICKETS ARE $30. Combination Concert/Grand Ball tickets are $40.



GUESTS IN PERIOD COSTUMES WILL ACTIVELY PARTICIPATE, WHILE SPECTATORS IN CONTEMPORARY DRESS MAY BE SEATED IN THE PERIPHERY OF THE DANCE FLOOR.
