Free Developmental Screening

HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital’s Physical Rehabilitation and Wellness department is holding a free developmental screening Saturday, August 27 for children ages 0-18 years old.  The screening will help parents determine if further evaluation could be beneficial to the physical development of their child.

St. Anthony’s pediatric Occupational Therapy services focus on the following areas:

  •         Fine Motor Skills:Difficulty with writing, cutting or grasping? Trouble with eye-hand coordination, as throwing and catching a ball?
  •         Self-Help Skills:Difficulty dressing, toileting and grooming him or herself? Difficulty feeding him or herself and using utensils?
  •         Visual Perceptual/Motor Skills:Difficulty identifying colors, shapes or completing visual games like puzzles?
  •         Sensory System:Is your child fearful of movements or heights? Does your child avoid certain smells, tastes or feel of clothing?

In addition to the listed treatment areas above, pediatric Occupational Therapy would be helpful for the following diagnoses or impairments:

  •         Developmental delays
  •         Autism/Asperger's syndrome
  •         ADHD/ADD       
  •         Upper extremity orthopedic impairments/disabilities
  •         Sensory processing disorders
  •         Traumatic brain injury
  •         Genetic disorders
  •         Neurological impairments

St. Anthony’s pediatric Physical Therapy services focus on the following areas:

  •         Gross Motor Skills:Difficulty with walking, running, or jumping? Trouble keeping up with other children?

In addition to the listed treatment areas above, pediatric Physical Therapy would be helpful for the following diagnoses or impairments:

  •         Developmental delays
  •         Club Foot
  •         Torticollis
  •         Lower extremity orthopedic impairments/disabilities
  •         Low muscle tone/weakness
  •         Neurological Impairments

Following the simple screening, the therapist will share results with each patient and provide recommendations based on screening results.  The therapist will encourage patients to schedule an appointment with their physician to discuss results and any recommendations for speech or swallowing evaluation and therapy.

A physician’s order is not required for the screening and patients do not have to register with the hospital.  However, screenings are being conducted by appointment only.  Appointment times are available between 9 a.m. and Noon.  Call(217) 347-1243to schedule an appointment.  St. Anthony’s Physical Rehabilitation and Wellness in located in the new Richard E. Workman Sports and Wellness Complex at 1301 North Maple Street, Effingham.
