From one famous cabin to another

Lincoln Log Cabin offers special ‘Little House on the Prairie’ program Sunday, July 24

LERNA, IL – In the category “Famous People Who Lived in Log Cabins,” the top answer would be Abraham Lincoln. But Laura Ingalls Wilder might be a close second.

The free program, presented in conjunction with the Lincoln Log Cabin Foundation, starts at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 24, in the historic site’s Visitor Center auditorium.

Before the presentation there will be a special craft activity for children under the portico. Join us afterwards on the Lincoln farm for children’s games and to see gingerbread being made over the open hearth.

Wilder’s books about her childhood on the American frontier have remained in print since they began appearing 84 years ago and today are considered classics in American children’s literature. Last year, a newly released autobiography by Wilder hit the bestseller lists.

Lincoln lived in log cabins as a boy in Kentucky and Indiana and as a young man in New Salem, Ill. Lincoln Log Cabin State Historic Site was the location of the final home of Lincoln’s father and stepmother. It features a reproduction of their cabin, which Lincoln visited often.
