FISH, Catholic Charities Accept Donations
FISH and Catholic Charities will be accepting donations for the 2012 Christmas for Kids Christmas Store to be held at the Old Rural King Store Building in the Village Square Mall in Effingham. Those people in the Altamont area wishing to donate new or good used toys, canned goods or small household items for the Christmas Store for needy families may take them to the Altamont Home Store, Peoples State Bank or the home of Margaret and Bill Fritcher at 14 Lincoln Road.
During the week of December 10, those who have applied for help will be invited to come to the Village Square Mall to shop, free of charge, for one new toy and several used toys for each child between the ages of 3-12. They also will be provided with a food box prepared especially for their family. Those seeking an invitation to shop may complete an application between November 1-22 at the following locations: FISH Service Center, Catholic Charities, Public Aid Office, Heartland Human Services, Effingham County Health Department and the Senior Citizens Center. It is requested that all applications be postmarked no later than November 22, 2012.
Bags of food also will be prepared for senior citizens and disabled individuals who are in need. Wiedman Cleaners, will again be sponsoring the Share the Warmth program. During the month of November, they will accept children's coats in good repair, clean them and bring them to the Christmas store for distribution. Guffey's Quality Cleaners will accept coats in good repair in bags, clean them and bring them to the Christmas Store for distribution.
