The 40th Annual Cowden Pioneer Days will be held Saturday, August 25 and Sunday, August 26 at Cowden Village Park. There will be a carnival each day. Visit the Pioneer Village which is open featuring old time displays and crafts in the setting of authentic log cabins. Pioneer Days prizes will be given away including $3,000 first place prize, child's Gator, second place prize and $150 cash third and fourth place prizes. Flea market, wood carver, arts and crafts, Indian village.

Today's events include:

8 a.m. -- Jim Edmundson Memorial 5K Walk & Run/one mile fun run. Phone 618-428-5805

10 a.m. -- Big parade uptown with floats, band, clowns and more. Phone 783-2444

11 a.m.-2 p.m. -- Dinner served, chicken and noodles

Noon-2 p.m. -- Tennessee Border Line Band

1 p.m. -- Childrens' games, North Pavilion, cabin area

1-3 p.m. -- Pioneer Talent contest, ages 7-14 and 15-18. Phone 217-783-2439

2-5 p.m. -- Bingo

2:30-3:30 p.m. -- Not So Beauty Contest, men dressing up as ladies

3-4 p.m. -- Pedal Tractor Pull

4-6 p.m. -- Texaco Country Showdown State Final

4-8 p.m. -- Supper served, fried chicken and baked steak with fixings

6:30-7 p.m. -- Head & Tail Game

6-8 p.m. -- Tyson Tolliver & Firebox Bluegrass music, North Pavilion, cabin area

7-10 p.m. -- Bingo

7 p.m. -- Wooten Rodeo, music to follow in rodeo arena

8-11 p.m. -- Seeing Daylight, Richard Tague
