Mattoon police have arrested a man on a count of aggravated battery to a child.

36-year-old Michael Nadolny was arrested Monday evening.  The charge alleges that Nadolny caused great bodily harm to an 11-month-old infant.

The incident reportedly began just before 4pm when police were dispatched to a residence in the 300 block of North First Street in Mattoon in regards to an infant with a head injury.  Officers learned that the infant had been in Nadolny's care while the child's mother was away.  The infant was taken to Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center and later airlifted to Carle Hospital in Urbana where he remains in critical condition.

Nadolny is alleged to have struck the infant in the head.

Nadolny is being held in Coles County Safety and Detention Center under $250,000 bond.
