The murder trial of local resident Charles Yoder will not begin Monday as scheduled.

Yoder is charged with the stabbing death of Ted Debany of Effingham last May 7.

Public Defender Scott Schmidt said he is meeting with the court-appointed special investigator in the case on Friday, and expects the investigator will tell him he needs more time to complete his work.

Both Schmidt and State's Attorney Bryan Kibler indicated they will be filing motions to be considered before the case goes to trial.

Judge Kimberly Koester scheduled a new trial date for Yoder for April 7, with a hearing on any pre-trial motions on March 6.

Yoder is being held without bond in Effingham County Jail.
