Fire did major damage to a mobile home in the Easy Breeze Park on Effingham's south end Tuesday evening, leaving a man and son homeless.

The fire call came around 5pm at Lot 21, the residence of Charles King and his college student son, James.  King was at work at the time the fire was spotted by a neighbor, who notified King.

Effingham Fire Chief Joe Holomy said the fire was due to a problem with the furnace.  There was extensive fire damage in the area of the furnace and smoke and water damage elsewhere.  Holomy said the mobile home is likely a total loss.

Firefighters were able to prevent any damage to neighboring structures.  They were on scene about 90 minutes in the zero weather.
