The CEFS Economic Opportunity Corporation's Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) will begin taking applications for cooling assistance starting on July 11 and will continue through July 27 or until funds are exhausted.

Appointments will be set on a first come, first serve basis until the available funding is gone.  Due to the brevity of the program, appointments for cooling assistance will only be accepted by phone or in person; no e-mail, voice mail, text or written requests will be accepted.

Funding for cooling assistance is very limited so the program is targeted to at-risk households, defined as seniors (age 60 and above), persons with disabilities, families with children 60 months of age or younger, and those with a doctor's certification letter dated within the last 90 days stating that the medical condition would be aggravated by extreme heat.  Applications will only be accepted from these at-risk households.

The $150 payments will be targeted to the household's electrical service.  Due to the limited funding no emergency services, fans, air conditioners or AC repairs will be provided.

To make an appointment for cooling assistance contact the CEFS Effingham County Outreach Office at 202 North Banker Street, Effingham, or phone 217-347-7514.  If special accomodations are needed for the appointment, they should be arranged with the local CEFS Outreach Office.
