The filing period for the March 2014 primary election closed Monday afternoon.

The only primary battle in Effingham County is for the Republican nomination for County Sheriff. Darren Feldkamp, John Gardner, Dave Mahon and Mike Schutzbach are all seeking the nomination. No one filed for sheriff on the Democrat side.  Incumbent John Monnet is not seeking re-election.

There are no opponents on file for County Clerk Kerry Hirtzel, County Treasurer Steve Dasenbrock or Supervisor of Assessments Pam Braun, either in the primary or in the general election in November.

The four incumbent County Board members up for re-election in 2014 all filed for another term; Republicans Jim Niemann and Dave Campbell in Districts B and D, and Democrats Karen Luchtefeld and Doug McCain in Districts C and G.  Ed Hoopingarner filed for the Republican nomination for County Board in District G.

Precinct Committeemen also filed at this time and will be elected in March so they can campaign for the candidates from their party in the November election.
