No one was injured when a pickup truck caught fire near Shumway Monday afternoon.

Shumway Fire Protection District firefighters were called at 4:56pm to the scene along Illinois 32 at 1850th Avenue, about a half-mile south of Shumway.  Shumway Fire District's Johnathon Paholke said the vehicle, driven by Nicholas Goeckner of Watson and owned by Bodine Communications of Decatur was traveling on the highway when Goeckner heard a "pop" and then started seeing smoke.  Goeckner parked the truck, grabbed his lunchbox and got out of the vehicle.  When he looked back, he saw the engine compartment was on fire.

Shumway firefighters had the fire under control within a few minutes of reaching the scene.  Paholke said the truck was a total loss.  Illinois 32 in the area of the fire was reduced to one lane travel for about a half-hour.
