Fire did damage to a home near Neoga Thursday morning.

The fire occurred in the home of Jane Erwin and her daughter Vickie at 55 Erwin Drive at Neoga. Neither resident was at home at the time of the fire.  The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, but it's not considered suspicious.  Six cats in the house died.

A passerby spotted the fire and notified authorities about 9:45am.  The fire started in the attic and firefighters were on scene for two hours in part because it was difficult to gain access to the attic. The fire was confined to the attic, but there was smoke damage throughout the house.

Wabash Fire Protection District firefighters assisted Neoga firefighters at the scene.
